Originally from small village in East Lothian, Nicole now lives on the outskirts of Glasgow. Her painting heart, however, travels to the coastal harbour villages of the east coast, as well as to the west coast, and islands, of Scotland.
She has spent many hours on Arran in particular, sketching on location to create some of the beautiful Arran inspired pieces we have available here at Saltwater Gallery.
In her studio, Nicole experiments with watercolours, richly coloured, fluid inks and acrylics. She paints on high quality watercolour paper building up layers in watercolour, ink and collage. She then pulls this together with acrylic mediums and texture, continuing to paint with highly pigmented acrylic paints. This layering and collaging creates unique and intense passages of colour in the paintings. She is continually trying to balance areas of detail and decoration with passages of space and light, and each of her pieces find a balanced composition, expressive marks and lines and a control of colour.
