Biography

Lisa’s work is continually inspired by the Scottish landscape, sketching and gathering ideas whilst out hiking. Although her studio is on the mainland, in Erskine, she spends much of her time contemplating the view from her caravan in Lamlash overlooking the Holy Isle. “This view has become my muse. I get an enormous sense of wellbeing and can recalibrate from overwhelm or stress, much the same as when I practice meditation.”

My art is intrinsically linked to being amongst nature, inspired not only by what I see but also how I feel. My paintings are a response to the positive impact that nature has on me.

When I am outside walking, I become curious of what catches my attention in the landscape around me, noticing what ‘lights me up’.   I then take the same approach when making my art, following the excitement from a curious exploration that my process gives me. I apply the paint intuitively, noticing and responding to colours9 and marks that happen serendipitously.  I love the effects created by imprinting objects into the wet paint and I use a variety of tools and stencils to create patterns and interesting surface textures that can be hidden in the translucent layers.

All of what I choose to create is an expression of what moves me, both from what I have seen in nature as well as in the actual process of creating.

My goal is to evoke the same emotional response for the viewer. I want my paintings to bring ease and fill one with a sense of serenity, creating a space to rest and reset.

I want to create framed sanctuaries for the soul.

 Havens of peace.

Gifts of gratitude for this beautiful world.
