Biography

Kris McKinnon was born, December 1980, in Lanark, Scotland.
Spending weekends at his grandmother’s education in drawing and painting with oils and acrylic
Although not a professional, his grandmother taught him everything she had learned through her life and Kris used this knowledge throughout his career he has switched between spray paint, pastel, charcoal, acrylic and oil to figure out what he can produce. Extremely versatile and unphased by subject matter, Kris has recently settled down of late, focusing more on colourful, vibrant, textured, abstract landscape from his homeland or locations that he loves.

I started painting when I was only three years old. My family noticed that I had a very creative and expressive imagination, so I was strongly encouraged by them to get into drawing.

I have dipped in and out of the art world throughout my life. In my 20's, I wasn't dedicated or committed enough to take my career further and painted sporadically. I eventually decided to go professional in 2013.

Since then I have produced over 500 pieces of art. I'm honoured and grateful to say that most of these paintings have sold in countries all over the world.

My work is bold, vibrant, colourful and unrestricted. I look for light, shapes and shadows as I depict landscapes, cityscapes and people. I use all forms of medium and apply paint with brushes, palette knives, tools, fingers or anything that I can use to make a mark. Lately I'm using a lot of spray paint, acrylic or oil and enjoying exploring new ways to achieve the images I want to create.
